Diet

I feed my rodents species appropriate and well balanced diets. They receive supplements consisting of a variety of grains, oils, seeds, legumes, vegetables, herbs, spices as well as berries and nuts as appropriate.

My grains are purchased at Bob's Red Mill's. Here is a list of my favorites: wheat germ, organic steel cut oats, organic brown rice, organic raw buckwheat groats, organic quinoa grain, organic kasha, organic brown flaxseeds, raw pumpkin seeds (treats), raw shelled sunflower seeds (treats),

I love to sprout for my animals.
Petite french green lentils and mung beans are my favorite; but you can also use other organic foods such as alfalfa, fenugreek, and clover. I use a Mason Jar with a sprouting lid that can be found at your local health food store. Here are some sprouting tips:

  • Place 2 tablespoons of sprouting seeds in a jar.
  • Fill the jar half way with cool water. and let it sit for 12 hours. away from direct sunlight
  • After 12 hours rinse the seeds through the lid with cool water.. Shake the jar so the seeds spread out and have room to grow.
  • Drain well and repeat this process 2-3 times a day
  • After 3-4 days your sprouts will be ready. Keeps well refrigerated for about 2-3 days
